The City of Tallahassee's Proposed 27% Property Tax Increase and NEBA's Response

We would like to share with you an analysis written by Tallahassee Reports about the proposed 27% tax increase by the City of Tallahassee on Tallahassee residents. You can read it at

In addition, here's NEBA Tallahassee - Network of Entrepreneurs & Business Advocates response send to the Tallahassee Democrat to the proposed tax hike:

On behalf of the Network of Entrepreneurs & Business Advocates (NEBA) and its Board, we would like to commend the Democrat’s Editorial Board and Commissioner Scott Maddox for questioning City Manager Anita Favors-Thompson’s proposed 27% property tax increase. We strongly believe that in this uncertain economy it would be harmful to impose any property tax increase.

Leon County has lost 6400 jobs in 7 months; new construction has slowed; and we are losing another 1100 state jobs in the state budget just signed by our Governor. We support our law enforcement community and believe we can and should support their budget needs – within the current taxing structure. We have
volunteers working to identify those areas of the budget that can be restructured so that money that should always have been allocated to policing will once again flow that direction.

We will share our proposed solutions with City Commissioners and staff and ask that in the meantime you discard any consideration of a property tax increase.

Do it for the 24 year old first time home buyer; the 65 year old retiree on a fixed budget; for the small business owner who thought he/she was finally going to finish the year in the black.

NEBA will keep you informed on the proposed tax increase.
